Flood prevention

During the spring snowmelt period, the risk of flooding in certain areas of the city increases. Therefore, a comprehensive set of flood prevention measures is carried out to ensure the timely pumping and removal of meltwater and prevent potential flooding.

The main objective is to ensure the continuous drainage of meltwater and rainwater, prepare drainage infrastructure in advance, and respond promptly to areas at risk of flooding.

Main Activities

As part of flood prevention measures: pumping water from flooded areas and areas at risk of flooding; removing water from flooded residential areas using specialized vacuum trucks; reinforcing and filling areas at risk of flooding with inert materials; and removing snow from residential areas and other territories to designated snow disposal sites.

Organization of Work

Flood prevention measures are carried out in advance, before the onset of active snowmelt. The work is organized in accordance with approved plans and schedules, taking into account the specific conditions of each district of the capital and the condition of the drainage infrastructure.

Particular attention is paid to areas with a high risk of flooding, private residential areas, residential communities, social facilities, as well as sections with insufficient capacity of drainage channels and stormwater sewerage networks.
